I really want to get this game for the DayZ mod and the other game modes but mainly the DayZ. Is the mod dead and if so should I just buy DayZ standalone or are their servers on the Mod and if so how many servers and players on average. Im located in Canada willing to go onto EU servers.

Introduction[edit | edit source]
Disclaimer[edit | edit source]
The lore of DayZ Standalone is set in a divergent timeline of the ArmA Universe (called the Armaverse Timeline). The events, locations and characters found in the Armaverse are considered within DayZ lore, as there are numerous references found in-game to suggest so, such as billboards, maps, equipment and statues.
The divergence can be likely considered to have occurred sometime in 2013, potentially before or after the events of Operation Black Gauntlet in ArmA II: Private Military Company. This is merely a speculation, but is considered due to the presence of the FNX-45 pistol in-game - a weapon produced from late 2012 onwards.False, sorry, the FNX was made from 2009! 2009 is also the end of the civil war and the outbreak occured during or at the end or around the end of the civil war. Also nice to notice are the little calendars on desks, they are on 'december' probably the month of the outbreak.
alone's developers have intended for the game to be about player experiences created in the title, but also have attempted to establish a setting and backstory of events that lead to the current state of anarchy found in the Oblast.
Setting[edit | edit source]
DayZ Standalone is set in the Oblast of South Zagoria, Chernarus - an ex-Soviet republic located approximately in Central Asia. Geographically the state borders the countries of Russia and Takistan, to the north and the west of Chernarus, respectively.
As seen in the events of ArmA II, the region is rocked by a bloody multi-faction civil war. Communist-Socialist rebel group known as the 'Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star (or 'ChDKZ' or Chedaki) launched numerous attacks on the government and the state-ran Chernarussian Defence Force, seizing control of territory within South Zagoria. In October 2009, the USMC 27th MEU was sent to prevent further civilian casualties in the conflict. Nationalist guerrillas under the National Party (or 'NAPA') are blamed for a terrorist attack in Moscow, Russia - resulting in Russian Armed Forces entering the conflict. USMC forces eventually capture the mastermind of the attack and leader of the Chedaki rebels - ending the Chernarussian crisis. The events and factions of this conflict are strongly and consistently present in South Zagoria during DayZ, through clothing, weapons and locations found by the player.
The specific location of Chernarus and its surrounding countries are consistently obfuscated and remains a mystery. In a trailer for ArmA II, a satellite view zooms into the Caucasus Mountains, bordering the countries of Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia in reality. This location of Chernarus suggested by the satellite lines up with previously Soviet-bloc countries.
*Part 1: References In-game[edit | edit source]
Throughout Chernarus there are several major Easter eggs and lore related content, these can vary from houses, items, signs, names, etc. To understand how DayZ is related to the Arma Universe you must have a vast knowledge of Arma 2 from it's campaign. It has become more blatantly obvious than before and has been confirmed by developers as written in previous Developer blogs, some status reports have mentioned the UN and Chernarussian Defence Forces, and this goes on without question. Bohemia has always put references in their games, and DayZ is a prime example of it.

Billboards[edit | edit source]
Not many people know the details behind the billboards in DayZ Standalone, as most of them are written in Czech language(Chernarussian) or Russian, and thus many people can't understand them with out proper translation. These are big giveaways to the obvious lore that's hidden in DayZ, and some of the billboards include old Arma 2 developers, such as Ivan Buchta the lead designer behind the game who also made great contributions to the map of Chernarus during the Development of Arma 2. It is also to take consideration that all the billboards in DayZ all have dates printed as the year 2009, which is the year the civil war took place. This might be a hint to when the outbreak occurred.

Badges[edit | edit source]
The badges below are real life merchandise that can be found on the official Bohemia Interactive store, these were given out at Pax South(2016) for free by the DayZ developers as a vintage gift to represent Chernarus. Each badge represents a faction from the Chernarussian Civil war of 2009.
Berets[edit | edit source]
Throughout DayZ any player can come across a variation of berets, these are definite references to the Chernarussian Civil war of 2009. They were added to fill in the gap that DayZ had, as a wearable items that would fit the theme of Chernarus.
While U.S and UN items didn't fit the theme of Chernarus, the developers had to justify the implementation of these items by connecting the Arma 2 story together with DayZ. Following this, the developers added American items varying from clothing or weapons such as the M4A1. All of these items spawned at American-UN Helicopter Crash Sites scattered around the environment of a post-soviet nation. Berets such as the 'UN Beret', 'ChDKZ Beret', and 'CDF Beret' are wearable items from the former factions that fought in the civil war just before the outbreak.
Buildings[edit | edit source]
These two buildings were removed from DayZ in patch 0.57, it's low poly and texture details never fitted Chernarus because it's model predated back to Operation Flashpoint. It never spawned loot and served no real purpose, you could find these buildings in Mogilevka, Kozlovka and Gorka.
Locations such as Bardak & Sons Vodka Distillery in Vybor were major targets from National Party. And a video from the official Arma website shows a video of NAPA bombing one of the Vodka Distillery sites in Chernarus.
